What Are LARCs?
LARCs are contraceptive methods that provide continuous protection against pregnancy for 3 to 10 years, depending on the type. They are:
Highly effective (over 99% success rate)
Low-maintenance (set-and-forget)
Fully reversible — your fertility returns quickly after removal
Long-Acting Reversible Contraception (LARC) IUD, Implanon & Mirena
Choosing the right contraception is a personal decision — and at Ace Doctors, we’re here to guide you through it with care, respect, and evidence-based advice.
If you’re looking for reliable, long-term contraception, options like the IUD, Implanon, or Mirena could be right for you. These are known as Long-Acting Reversible Contraceptives (LARCs) and are highly effective, convenient, and safe for many people.

What to Expect at Ace Doctors
Before getting an implant or IUD, you’ll need an initial consultation with one of our experienced GPs to:
Discuss your medical history and contraception goals
Review the benefits and potential side effects
Choose the option that best suits your lifestyle and health needs
Organise the procedure and follow-up care
We’ll walk you through every step so you can make an informed decision you feel confident about.
1. Implanon (The Contraceptive Implant)
A small, flexible rod inserted just under the skin of your upper arm
Lasts up to 3 years
Contains a low dose of progestogen, which prevents ovulation
Quick and simple procedure under local anaesthetic
Can be removed or replaced at any time
Good to know: Some people experience changes in their periods or spotting — your GP can discuss what to expect and how to manage it.
2. IUD (Intrauterine Device)
A small, T-shaped device placed inside the uterus
Two types: Copper IUD (non-hormonal) and Mirena/Kyleena (hormonal)
a) Copper IUD:
Hormone-free
Lasts up to 10 years
May be suitable if you prefer a non-hormonal option
b) Mirena/Kyleena (Hormonal IUD):
Slowly releases progestogen to prevent pregnancy
Lasts up to 5 years
Often reduces heavy or painful periods
Note: The procedure is done in-clinic and typically takes only a few minutes. We offer local anaesthetic and support to make the process as comfortable as possible.
